Our students begin learning a 14 posture form. This is more digestible for students new to Taiji, and once familiar with the postures contained within it, are easily transitioned to learning the Long Form. The 14 Form is based on common Yang style postures and is drawn from a culmination of in depth research of more than 200 medical journal articles combined with more than a decade of utilization in rehabilitation settings. This evidence based program focuses upon the development and refinement of proper body mechanics and increased static and dynamic balance. The Form can be performed on both sides in less than 10 minutes, and retains all of the fundamental movements found in any variation of a Yang influenced form.
The brevity of the form appeals to students of all ages. The short form can be done by large groups of people in rows, since the movementa are all choreographed in straight lines. It provides a good introduction to the basic elements of the Yang Style Forms. When done properly, the short form can exemplify grace, beauty, and exemplify the fundamental martial aspects of this art. For those wishing to include the study of martial aspects of this form, it is quite full of both empty hand and weapon applications.
